Donna M. Smith

Donna’s life began on October 17, 1932 in Smileyberg, KS; the daughter of Raymond E. and Nellie G. (Lanier) Parry. She was united in marriage to the late Bobby Ray Smith, Sr. on December 29, 1952 in Douglass, KS, their marriage lasted for 53 years. Donna was the loving mother of four sons who she enjoyed supporting in all of their activities throughout their lives. Donna was a social butterfly and enjoyed eating at the Thunderbird Grill with her group of friends. She worked extremely hard providing and supporting her family. She operated the family oilfield business for many years and later went on to cook for Vanora/Oil Hill schools. After her retirement, Donna continued working at the Towanda State Bank for 14 years. She loved gardening, being outdoors, and watching sports. Donna Lee Crowley

Donna Lee Crowley, 91, of Aransas Pass, TX passed away on 11 April, 2022, in Aransas Pass, TX, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and R. L. “Sonny” Buck. Donna was born on Thursday, December 18, 1930 in El Dorado, Butler County, Kansas, to Gordon L. “Bud” Shannon and Inez Mae Ferguson. She lived and attended school in Augusta, KS where she excelled as a student, attended the First Christian Church, was a drum majorette, and was Salutatorian in her high school graduating class. She attended KSU in Manhattan, KS, pursuing a BS in nursing. After graduation she married Alan R. Cobb, also of Augusta. Together, they raised 3 daughters, Susan, Pamela and Teri. In 1956, at the age of 26, she and Alan, (Mobil Exploration) gathered up the family (ages 4, 2 and 7 months) and moved to Tripoli, Libya. The family continued their sojourn and overseas expatriate lives until 1970, also living in Ankara and Istanbul, Turkey. Donna was a wonderful mother. She was an avid tennis player, reader, Girl Scout leader, and in Istanbul, volunteered as a “Gray Lady” nurse’s aide in a children’s hospital. The historical perspective gained by her travels continued to spark her interest in world events the remainder of her life. Back in the United States, Donna married John R. “Buzz” Crowley, III, a childhood friend, also of Augusta, KS. They resided in Midland, Texas. She worked as an RN for Drs. Collins, Klempnauer and Reed until 1997. Donna is survived by her sister, Gloria Hollis, of Bryan TX; daughter, Teri Moore (Kevin C. Moore), daughter Susan Buck (“Sonny”), stepson John R. Crowley IV (Shelly), stepdaughters Mischelle Merrill and Candiase (“Candi”) Dozier (Bill); Nephew Mark Gilliland (Charlene); Niece, Garyl Rutherford, great-niece Audrey Rutherford; Nephew, Rodney Wager (Sharon), great-niece Candace Fuchs (Josh and children Kinsley and Sadie Ann) and great-nephew Cory Wager; Grandchildren Greg Moore (Erin), Shannon Cochran (Matt, Sr.), Adam Downey (Kimberley), Jack Downey (Tamara), Aaron Masters, Ashley Masters, Len Davlin, Brandi Dozier, Tiffani Deller (Adam) and Lauren Bechtel (Carter); 24 Great-grandchildren and 1 greatgreat grandchild. Donna is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Barbara Jean Shannon, and Marcia Aline Gilliland, nephew, Joe Gilliland, daughter Tiffany Richard (nee Pamela Diane), her husbands, Al Cobb and Buzz Crowley. Funeral Service will be on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at 10 a.m. at Dunsford Funeral Home in Augusta, Kansas. Donna Jean Strange passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 31st, 2022 at Nottingham Health and Rehabilitation. She was a loving and social woman whose compassionate heart knew no stranger. Her love for life, friends, and family is something all who encountered her were blessed to experience.
