Rose Hill- Showalter Lehr, Elinora “Jean” (Piper) 91, passed away Thursday, March 10th, 2022. She was born October 2nd, 1930 to John Piper and Elinor Piper (Mossman) in El Dorado, KS. Jean was a retired elementary teacher from Rose Hill & Derby Public Schools, active member of Rose Hill Senior Center & St. James Episcopal Church in Wichita. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 husbands Donald Lee Showalter & Harold E. Lehr, & one sister Carolyn Buckner. Elinora is survived by her daughter: Sally Stevens of Derby; Son:Sam (Valerie) Showalter of Leon, KS: Step-son: Michael (Caryn) Lehr of Wichita. 6 grandchildren & 6 great grandchildren; & numerous other relatives & friends. Memorial Service: 1:00 PM Monday May 23, 2022 at St. James Episcopal Church, Wichita. Inurnment at in Dunlap Cemetery- Rose Hill, KS. & reception to follow at Rose Hill Senior Center. Jerry W. Ratcliff

Jerry’s life began on July 23, 1943 in El Dorado, KS; the son of Presnell and Bessie (Stump) Ratcliff. He served in the Army National Guard for six years. Jerry was united in marriage to Carolyn Coiner on November 21, 1969 in El Dorado. Jerry worked hard for his family as a lab analyst for Skelly Refinery and saw the progression through the years, retiring from Holly Frontier Refinery in 2005. Jerry was firm in his faith and was a member of Temple Baptist Church for 49 years. He was a trustee and served on the Mission Fund Committee. He loved to work and tinker on his 442 Oldsmobile and enjoyed watching KC Royals baseball. Jerry’s greatest joy was his family, which includes his wife Carolyn of El Dorado; children David (Holly) McAdoo of Towanda, Marc (Crystal) Ratcliff of Cassoday and Kelly Liby of Topeka; grandchildren Derek McAdoo, Dylan McAdoo, Chaz Ratcliff, Charlee McAdoo, Harley Ratcliff, Samantha Liby and Sarah Liby; great grandchild Porter McAdoo; sister Ruth Ledbetter of Whitewater, KS. Jerry went to be with his Lord on May 10, 2022 in El Dorado. He is preceded in death by his mother, Bessie, and father Presnell, sister Juanita Dale and nephew, Joe McNeil. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 16 a 1pm at Temple Baptist Church in El Dorado. Jerry will be laid to rest at Walnut Valley Memorial Park in El Dorado. Murray Ansel Webb, 90, of El Dorado, Kansas passed away on February 23, 2022 in Wichita, Kansas. Born May 7, 1931, Murray Webb was the eighth of nine children born to Maude (Burroughs) and Jerry Webb on the family farm just outside of Syracuse, Kansas.

Robert Duane Hughes

Robert Duane Hughes was born on October 12, 1943 in Wichita, Kansas; the son of Wilbur Martin and Helen Marie (Drum) Hughes. He graduated from El Dorado High School. Bob faithfully served his country in the United States Army from 1969 to 1972 when he was medically discharged. During his tours, he served as military police and was assigned to the tank cars in Vietnam but was later transferred to infantry, within that time he received his Purple Heart. After being discharged from the military, Bob drove for American Freight, FedEx, Texaco and Greyhound. He loved riding motorcycles and spent his entire life taking care of others. If he ever heard of a need, he did his best to make sure it was met, with his generous heart and giving spirit. His loving family includes the love of his life, Sue Fee; daughter, Shawn (David) Blau; granddaughters, Mackenzie (Billy) Jackson and McKaylee Batman; great grandsons, Will and Waylon; brother, Bill (Kathy) Hughes; and sisters in law, Kathy Hughes and Shirley Hughes. Bob passed away on May 11, 2022 in Wichita, Kansas. He is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Kenneth Dean Hughes, Michael James Hughes and Patrick Joseph Hughes. Friends may gather with family at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Monday, May 16, 2022 from 5:00-7:00 pm; the recitation of the rosary will follow at 7:00pm. Lavern “Red” J. Acklin

Lavern “Red” J. Acklin, 70, of El Dorado, KS, passed away on May 8, 2022 at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, NE with his wife and children by his side. Lavern was born on November 28, 1951 in Maryville, MO to the late Darwin and Dorothy Mae (MacDonald) Acklin. He was a 1969 graduate of Graham High School in Graham, MO. Red attended college at Northwest Missouri State in Maryville. He was a member of Graham Methodist Church and First Christian Church of El Dorado. Red was united in marriage to Laurel on November 28, 1987. Red was employed in the glass business for several years. He then worked in residential and commercial construction, owning and operating Ackiln Construction for many years. He retired from construction and began doing estate sales and selling on eBay. He loved his family and enjoyed life to the fullest. Red was very kind and caring to those he knew. Red will be sorely missed by all who knew him. His loving family includes his wife, Laurel, son Corey (Amy) Acklin, daughter Jessica (Todd) Kuczaj; gradaughters Samantha Kuczaj, Rachel Kuczaj and Madison Acklin; siblngs Gary (Donna) Acklin, Dennis (Denise) Acklin, Sarah Beth (Randy) Jones, Randy (Bonnie) Acklin, Ronnie (Starla) Acklin, Kathy Sue (Chuck) Freeman, Greg (Julie) Acklin and is preceded in death by sister, Verna Mae Acklin. Martin “Marty” Greene

Martin “Marty” Greene’s life began on February 24, 1950 in Chicago, IL; the son of Edward J. and Genevieve (Green) Greene. He proudly served his country in the United State Air Force for 26 years. Marty was united in marriage to Martha Gengler on June 3, 1972 in Wichita. Marty was an insurance agent for New York Life Insurance as well as the Knights of Columbus. In his spare time, Marty enjoyed camping in his camper, riding motocycles in his youth and experimenting as a HAM radio operator. Marty was firm in his foundation of faith and was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus and a former Grand Knight. Marty’s greatest joy was his family, which includes his wife, Martha of Benton, KS; son Nicholas Greene of El Dorado and daughter, Veronica Greene of Waldren, AR; sister, Peggy Greene of Chicago and brother, Edward Greene of Chicago. Marty passed away on May 3, 2022 in Benton, KS. He is preceded in death by his parents. Friends may gather with the family from 5-7pm on Tuesday, May 10 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in El Dorado. Vigil services will begin at 7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, May 11 at 10:30am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with military honors to follow Mass. Danna Jean Ulrich McCracker

Danna Jean was born September 28, 1928, in Sylvan Grove, Kansas to parents Hilda and Ray Ulrich. She was the oldest of four children with siblings Darrel, Wanda, and Dee. She grew up in Kansas living in Sylvan Grove, Lincoln, and Ellsworth. It was at Ellsworth in the Senior High School that she met Donald McCracken, who became her husband and best friend.
