Butler Community College’s Phi Theta Kappa Chapter (PTK), Alpha Phi Alpha won 16 awards at regional and international conventions. At the regional convention held in Overland Park, Butler’s PTK Chapter brought home the following awards: First place College Project, third place Most Outstanding Chapter, Five Star Chapter, Reach Rewards Chapter, and Channing Bear Chapter.

Will Martin, executive director of Kansas Strong, will present “El Dorado: The Power of Production” – the presentation will include the quest for oil and how it was discovered in El Dorado, how El Dorado was the first place geology was used to find an oil field before a single well was drilled, how El Dorado led to Wichita being the Air Capital, how the El Dorado field was home to the largest Lease Town in history, how the El Dorado field led directly to the victory of WWI, and how the oil and gas industry continues to be a major part of El Dorado and our everyday lives.
The April meeting of the Susannah French Putney Daughters of the American Revolution was held at the Kansas Oil Museum in El Dorado April 15. The Pledge of Allegiance and the American Creed were recited, and together the group sang “The Star Spangled Banner” lead by Teresa Bachman.
