Suicide Warning Signs

In 2020, the latest year for which statistics were available, 45,979 Americans died by suicide and there were an estimated 1,200,000 suicide attempts according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. On average, there are 130 suicides per day. Here are some warning signs that you can look for that may prevent one of those deaths.

May 2022 North Butler 4-H Club Meeting Minutes

Harley McLaughlin called the North Butler 4-H Club to order on May 9, and Maya and Caleb Klingenberg led the 4-H Pledge and Flag Salute. Cora Brackenridge stepped in for Ella Amend as secretary and roll call was “My favorite 4-H project is…” and 21 members responded. Caleb Klingenberg gave the treasurer’s report and there were no new changes to the ending balance. The leader’s report was given and asked everyone to mark June 21 on our calendars as the 4-H club can make cakes for the June birthdays at Wheat State Manor Nursing Home. The 4-H mini fair is June 18. Each 4-H club in the county has been asked to make a gift basket for a silent auction. The 4-H members decided that the club basket will have a Movie Theater them and Lucy and Mackenzie will shop for the gift goodies. Noah McLaughlin donated $30 for the shoppers to spend for the basket. Lastly, in the leader’s report members answered enthusiastically, “how many more days until school is out?”, followed by handing out candy.

WWII Victory Letter from Bob to Gwen

Wellington City Councilman, Rick Roitman recently was able to share an important letter that gave a glimpse into how loved ones communicated during WWII. Roitman, a retired US Navy Commander, served for 27 years and on this occasion honored a fellow Navy man, Bob Rice, by reading a letter he had written from his ship during WWII.
