Voter Turnout Doubled

Butler County Times Gazette The rejection of the Constitutional Amendment by voters in Kansas has made national headlines this week, but of equal importance is the marked increase of voter turnout in Butler County that can be directly attributed as a result of the Amendment being on the ballot. Butler County voters came out in greater numbers than is traditionally seen in primary elections.

National Night Out connects law enforcement with community

Butler County Times Gazette Law enforcement officials within the City of El Dorado and Butler County joined forces on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 to celebrate National Night Out with the community. Families came out to East Park in El Dorado to enjoy a complimentary hot dog dinner, playing lawn games and visiting with First Responders, law enforcement officials and community organizations.

Hampton’s under new ownership

Established in 2018, Hampton’s was a wellknown and well-loved restaurant in the city of Eldorado. Known for their Veal and other menu items, they became a local favorite quickly. After closing in May, the restaurant didn’t take long to find its new owners, Coby and Paige Onek. The couple purchased Hampton’s on July 1, 2022.

City to conduct free-chlorine disinfection

The City of El Dorado Water Department will be conducting a free-chlorine disinfection of the water distribution system August 1 – 31, 2022. Many water utilities use a form of chlorine called “chloramines” in treated water. The advantage of using these is that there is no smell or taste. The disadvantage is that it is a milder disinfectant. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment recommends periodically switching to free-chorine to maintain a healthy distribution system. During the switch to free-chlorine, customers may notice a chlorine taste or odor. This is perfectly normal and the water is still safe to drink.
