I RECKON…

Dear Readers, It’s funny now—that joke Mother Nature pulled on me last week—but I wasn’t laughing when, only a day after I’d packed all my summer clothes away, the mercury topped out above ninety degrees. And the winds that followed, as they abruptly changed the landscape out my window, didn’t do much to restore my sense of humor either. I’ve no idea where the leaves went because none are piled against the house and our patio is clean as a whistle. As I write, a breeze is still moving through the Flint Hills, rippling the pond water from east to west and making waves among the trees by lifting bare brown and grey branches up and down. The natural world’s undulations brought me to my senses. How could I forget the cardinal rules of dealing with the weather (Kansas weather) and life in general?

October 2, 2022 Beta Beta held their Karen Osborne Memorial St Jude Walk/run. We exceeded our goal of $4,000. Thank you to our walk leader Debbie Craig and her committee. Thanks to our hostess Reed and Peggy Harrison, our social committee and to the wonderful Andover community.

Friends of Doug’s

Doug Crumrine is a well loved Augusta resident, local plumber, retired volunteer firefighter and loyal customer to Bricks Bar and Grill. It was two and a half years that Crumrine was diagnosed with Colon Cancer at the age of 59. He was able to beat the cancer and go into remission for a short 6-12 months. Crumrine got the news just two months ago that the cancer had come back to attack his liver and lungs, being told by his doctor that it was terminal this time.

6-month Anniversary and Update for the April 29 Tornado

ANDOVER, KAN. - Friday, October 28, 2022 – Saturday marks the six-month anniversary of the tornado that hit Andover and Butler and Sedgwick County in April 2022. Repairs, renovations, and rebuilds continue to move forward and an update can be found below: · The fencing for the dog park in Central Park is expected to be installed in about a month and materials have started to arrive. It took a few months for the order to be fulfilled by the manufacturer due to supply chain shortages.

Witches Night Out

The business district in downtown Augusta held their annual Witches Night Out on the third Thursday in October. Witches and warlocks brought their shopping magic to the 19 participating businesses that concocted spooky specials throughout the witching-hours.

Governor Laura Kelly Awards Nearly $2.4M for Law Enforcement and Crime Prevention
