Child Care Info Session

With a high demand for child care in El Dorado and surrounding area and little to no availability, the Child Care Aware of Kansas and Child Start are hosting a free informational session to help potential child care providers learn about the resources available to them on Tuesday, November 15th from 5:30 - 7:30pm at the El Dorado Train Depot located at 430 N Main St. This free event will share resources to help individuals start a child care business.

What’s New in Butler County?

A new hair salon opened up in Andover Nov. 4 with a motto of 'Hair care for every kid.' Specializing in kids cuts, this salon goes above and beyond for your little ones. Kids Cuts, located at 324 W Central Ave is putting a new spin on hair salons in the community.They're specifically gear toward and decorated for kids 17 years and younger. With salon seats in shapes like unicorn and cars, video games to play while in the chair, a play corner in the waiting area, cartoons on the TV and a patient staff, your young ones are bound to love their visit. 'We will never turn a family away for service no matter how challenging the haircut is. We'll blow bubbles, give them lollipops and just do everything we can to complete the service and make the family happy,' said Sally Caggiano, co-owner of Kids Cuts. Sally has been a cosmetologist for 14 years, graduating from Xenon International Academy in Wichita. Sharing a love for children and entrepreneurship, Sally and her husband Tyler partnered in ownership to open Kids Cuts together. Being only the third kid specific salon in the greater Wichita area, Sally believes they're fulfilling a much needed demand. 'Tyler and I saw the need to have a place for families to take their kids. He's also a jack of all trades with multifaceted skills. He does a lot of the behind the scenes things for the company like running a website, the building remodel and he made the fun salon chairs like the unicorn,' said Sally. Kids Cuts offers special packages like the Princess Package that offers a wash, haircut and mini manicure. Young ones can also get hair bling put in, that's similar to tinsel for your hair or a small feather. Anyone 17 and under is eligible for the kids cut price and they also offer cuts for mom and dads, or adults. 'I have kids of my own so I really enjoy and value kids. Augusta Fashion Show Benefits Ovarian Cancer

It's not often you hear the words 'fashion show' in Butler County. Last Saturday, Nov. 5, downtown Augusta was lit up with fashion and inspiration to raise money and awareness for ovarian cancer thanks to Bethanie Brewer Salon. The fashion show was held outside on the Sugar Shane's Cafe patio. Beautiful headpieces and 20 women of all shapes and sizes, different backgrounds and ages walked the runway. For some, it was their first time ever seeing a fashion show let alone model in one.

Sunday Speaker Series

Historian Ken Spurgeon was the most recent guest speaker for the “Sunday Speaker Series” at the Butler County Historical Society Home of the Kansas Oil Museum. His presentation, “Divided Loyalties: The Civil War for Indian Territory,” explored the story of Native Americans living in Kansas and Indian Territory during the Civil War.

Celebration of Freedom Schedule of Events

The 25th annual Celebration of Freedom will begin on Veterans Day, November 11th, with the “Salute to Veterans” program will be held at the First Christian Church located at 300 W. Central, in El Dorado. The First Christian Church Praise band will open the program at 10:15 a.m. and the Salute will begin at 11 a.m. with a speaker and presentation of Veteran of the Year. A meal will follow, free to Veterans.
