BCC Recognizes Nursing Graduates

EL DORADO, KAN. - The City of Mulvane had a front seat during Butler Community College’s nurses pinning last week when two residents, Class President Jonathon Serrano-Ramsey and Class Vice President Garrett Schaar lead their fellow graduates onto the gym floor. Ramsey is a graduate of Mulvane High School, Schaar a graduate of Derby.

Working on Wellness

The El Dorado Working on Wellness (E-WOW) committee held their summit on December 13th and invited the public to learn what the organization has done, is doing and plans to do in the future. Additionally, they solicited input from those in attendance on ways to improve wellness opportunities for youth in the community.

Freya Members Meet For Christmas Luncheon

Members of the Freya Study Club gathered for their annual Christmas luncheon on Friday, December 16, 2022. Hostesses Lauren Davis,Jo Hess,Elaine Murphy, and Marlene Rethman welcomed everyone into the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church commons area which was beautifully decorated for the season. Table decorations included whimsical snow globes set in miniature winter scenes. A delicious buffet luncheon was catered by Pear Tree Catering and Bakery. Members enjoyed visiting about plans for the upcoming holidays.

Freezing Temps Hit

Hopefully everyone stayed warm over the last few days with the sudden drop in temperature. Butler County saw temperatures as low as -5 degrees on Thursday and Friday after dropping from 32 degrees on Wednesday. The notable Kansas wind surged throughout the great state, making the wind-chill as low as -30 degrees. Not a lot of snow hit the ground during the snow squalls but there was about 2 inches throughout the county.

Historical Society Restores Cabin

The oldest house and first building built in Augusta is located at 305 State St. Sitting South of Augusta, the cabin was built by two gentlemen in 1869, the cabin has been in its original location for nearly 155 years. Originally built to be used as a trading post, the building has served many different purposed over the years including being utilized as a post office, a meeting room for local organizations and even acted as Augusta’s first school room upstairs.
