North Butler 4-H Club February Meeting

Jeremiah Goebel called the meeting to order on February 13, 2023, at Emmaus Church. Carson Brackenridge and Rustin McLaughlin led the 4-H Pledge and the Flag Salute. Next, secretary, Donovan Brewer called roll call of “What is your 4-H goal this year?” and 21 members responded. Donovan read the January minutes. Ella Amend provided the treasurers report.The leader’s report was given and Debora announced any member can try to make a fair book cover with the theme of, “Sew it, Grow it, Show it,”the drawings are due Monday,March 6th, and the winners receive a cash prize. She gave out candy for those who filled out their goal sheets.During the 4-H council report, it was announced that Beef Weigh-In is Saturday February 25, and 4-H Day is Sunday February 26, at the Butler Community College. The meeting was adjourned.

Dead or Alive?

Dear Readers, I admire Mark Twain but I disagree with his statement “An adventure is something that while it’s happening you wish you it wasn’t.” For example, I had quite an adventure through a ghost town. Though we never saw the old buildings my friend and I thought were there, we found signs indicating we were in the right place. And it was clearly inhabited by a handful of the living.

Benton to Japan: Studying Abroad

A local Benton resident, Haley Haines, has spent her last three weeks in Japan studying Fine Arts thanks to the Kansas State University study abroad program. She has recently Been awarded the $5,000 Mike and Bencky Goss Study Abroad Scholarship to assist in tuition and boarding costs. Japan opened up their borders for tourism for the first time in October 2022 since the start of the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2019.

Feb. 2023 Freya Meeting

Robin’s Boutique in downtown El Dorado was the perfect meeting spot for Freya Study Club’s recent luncheon on February 17, 2023 . Robin Forpahl and her staff assisted hostesses Jennifer Callaway and Anna Vestring with the delicious and colorful array of salads and desserts brought by members to share. Hostess Cherrie Kehler was not able to attend.
