This week marks the beginning of Severe Weather Preparedness Week. From March 6-10, the National Weather Service, (NWS), will be focusing on different weather topics including Preparedness on Monday, Tornado Safety on Tuesday, Lightning Safety on Wednesday, Hail/Wind Safety on Thursday, and Flood Safety on Friday.
The February regular meeting of the Susannah French Putney Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution was held on February 17, 2023 at the Kansas Oil Museum in El Dorado, KS. The Chapter’s special guest was Denver McCormick, from El Dorado, who wrote the winning essay for our area.
The Board of Directors of Citizens Bank of Kansas is pleased to announce the following officer promotions: Sid Graber promoted to Chief Credit Officer. A native of Pretty Prairie, Sid Graber has been with Citizens Bank of Kansas since 1998 when CBK acquired the State Bank of Pretty Prairie. His banking expertise includes all varieties of ag lending, in addition to commercial, consumer and real estate. Sid is a graduate of Kansas State University and has served as President of the Kansas Bankers Association- Kansas Ag Bankers Division. Sid Graber’s community efforts include the Pretty Prairie Community Association and the Pretty Prairie Rodeo, among others. He is also involved with his church and serves on the Board of Deacons and the Worship Team. Sid and his wife Gayle live on the family farm near Pretty Prairie.

Weatherman Camden Mertz will tell you how to be safe and enjoy this spring break weather. While Michael doesn't have much to say as sports come to an end, we feel bad and give him camera time anyway.
The Prize Patrol from Partners In Education Foundation, Inc. (PIE) made its tour of El Dorado schools February 23rd to distribute this year’s Spring Awards. Two different types of awards were presented: $6,500 in Grants to Schools, and $4,800 in awards from the Felix Alton Cantrell Jr. Fund.
Studio 142 Salon & Spa kicked off a weeklong celebration for their third anniversary with cupcakes, wine and 30% off any one item through March 11th. Co-owners Stephanie Hall and Abbi Studebaker chose to locate their business in the heart of El Dorado’s Historic Downtown inside of the District 142 building.

Phantom is a big playful pup that is sure to steal your heart. She is friendly with other dogs and cats, making her a perfect addition to your crew. She is a year and half old and is already very smart. She likes to show off those smarts by doing tricks for you like sit and shake.
Dear Readers, Finding the PERFECT calendar is my “white whale.” Unlike Captain Ahab who pursues his obsession relentlessly, I only chase mine in my nonexistent free time. I like to think it IS out there. But most my hours are spent keeping all my schedules moving forward the only I way I can, which is using a variety of paper and electronic calendars. So when it’s time to turn the page when one month ends and another begins, I am filled with equal measures of confidence and dread. My confidence is fueled by relief that I’ve sailed through another month. And my dread is powered by what might sink my ship, the screwups I may find when I REALLY look at my schedules for the new month. And when March arrives, I feel both emotions with greater intensity.
