Five days before the one year anniversary of the 2022 Andover tornado, Republican Senator Jerry Moran visited the city to announce federal funding to further assist in recovery. Moran came to Prairie Creek Elementary School on Monday to witness the updates and advancements made since the damage was done.
EL DORADO - Butler Community College’s Life Enrichment will host Ken Spurgeon and Calla Edwards on Tuesday, May 2 at 9 a.m. in the Hubbard Welcome Center on the college’s El Dorado campus.
Sometime or another we will experience a time when we are alone. Some people fear of being alone for various reasons. The first step is to become comfortable with yourself and having the self-confidence that you will be able to manage being by yourself. With this in mind, here are some suggestions that a person can use so that the fear of loneliness doesn’t become a major issue in their life.
Members of the Freya Study Club and their guests enjoyed a spring luncheon in the Dankert Room at the Butler Community College Welcome Center on Friday, April 21, 2023. Tables were decorated in a western theme with turquoise bandanas and mason jars full of baby’s breath. A delicious meal provided by Great Western Dining included chicken salad in fresh pineapple boats, veggie sticks, fruit, and muffins. Chocolate petits fours were served for dessert. Janice Shaffer provided a special program for each attendee which combined the luncheon theme, agenda, and this year’s Freya theme—“Putting It All Together”. Co-hostesses were Jane Doornbos, Cindy Koehler, Paula Pepperd, Bernie Spradling, and Deb Wheeler.

MANHATTAN — Mrs. Diane Lowery, PreK-5th grade librarian at Lincoln Elementary School, USD 402, Augusta, was recently awarded a $500 Classroom Grant by the Kansas Association of American Educators (KANAAE), a non-union professional educators’ association serving Kansas educators. Mrs. Lowery will be using the funds to purchase books that will cultivate a love and appreciation of America and showcase the amazing things the United States of America has accomplished over the past 247 years.
The Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast will be held on Thur., May 4th from 7-8a at the Civic Center 201 E Central Ave. The event is held each year on the National Day of Prayer which is an annual observance held on the first Thur. of May and is an invitation for people to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.
