May 1 is May Day! However, the North Butler 4-H Club met and was called to order by acting president, Caleb Klingenberg. Hope McLaughlin and Maya Klingenberg led the 4-H Pledge and Flag Salute, respectively. Fifteen members answered roll call of “My favorite color is?”. Donovan Brewer read the April meeting minutes and corrections were made. Ella Amend gave the treasurers report, having no deposits or withdrawals. Mindy Amend stood in for Debora as community leader and announced that the mini fair is May 23rd. Happy Birthday to Hudson Harder, John Ferley, and Ella Amend! Meeting adjourned.
Members of the Freya Study Club met at the home of Janice Shaffer in Wichita, Kansas, on May 5, 2023, for their last meeting before the summer break. Co-hostesses were Carolyn Connell, Bobbie Jaax, and Cindy Koehler. Co-hostess Janice Jones was not able to attend. The delicious brunch menu included egg casserole, fruit salad, coffee cake, cinnamon rolls, juice, and coffee.

This was long before any anti-rejection medications were available. Cyclosporine, the first anti-rejection medication, was approved for use in 1983. The use of anti-rejection medications has significantly increased how long transplanted organs will function.
Twelve El Dorado High School seniors, all Summa Cum Laude graduates, were presented Myrrl Houck Memorial Scholarships at a reception Thursday, May 4, at the EHS library. Thehonorees were: Gibson Baker, Adam Cavallaro, Logan Clark, Chloe Coiner, Jillian George, Jerica George, Abigail Hutchins, Brooklyn Jahn, Aodhfionn Mora-Bruce, Macy Parsons, Michael Riddle, and Kaydence Voyles.
The City of El Dorado, in collaboration with the El Dorado Police Department, organized a Town Hall meeting on Tue., May 9th, aimed at addressing the growing fentanyl crisis, both in the United States and specifically in El Dorado.
