What everyone can do to protect the world’s oceans
The world’s oceans are facing significant challenges. According to the United Nations Regional Information Center, each year the oceans absorb 23 percent of human-caused carbon dioxide emissions and capture 90 percent of the excess heat created by these emissions. These developments are overwhelming the oceans, which are vital to the global ecosystem.

KDOT Announces National Winning ArtistKDOT Announces
TOPEKA – One of the nine winning entries in the Kansas Department of Transportation’s 2023 Aviation Art Contest has won at the national level and now moves to international competition. Elly Han, 13, of Altamont and a student at Altamont Grade School, placed first in the Intermediate Category of the annual National Association of State Aviation art contest.

Maple is a small boxer mix weight in around 2530 lbs. She’s just 5 months old, but is well behaved for a puppy. Heartstrings volunteers are working on potty training Maple and she’s doing well. She’s already kennel trained and friendly with kids and other dogs.
