Augusta Public Schools USD 402 will be holding a special election in May for a bond issue. According to their submission to the County Clerk, the bond will finance certain improvements to USD 402 facilities.

Students from across the county will compete against each other by grade in the Butler County Spelling Bee on February 7. Students who have competed in previous months and crowned as the winner frome each school will move onto the county bee. The spelling bee starts at 1pm on Friday in the Clifford/Stone Community Room of the Hubbard Welcome Center at Butler Community College El Dorado campus, 901 S. Haverhill Road.

Around 9pm in Washington D.C., on Wednesday evening, an American Airlines plane departing from Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport collided with an Army helicopter mid-air while approaching Ronald Reagan National Airport. The plane has been reported to be carrying 67 passengers, including several U.S. ice skaters, coaches and their family members.

Yesterday evening, the National Association of Biology Teachers, (NABT), confirmed a Butler Community College, (BCC), professor was aboard the plane that collided with an Army helicopter in Washing D.C. last night. She was identified as Lindsey Carter Fields.
