After Thrusday’s loud thunderstorms rolled through, severe weather and tornado season is sure to be on everyone’s minds. Luckily, Butler County Emergency Management, (Butler County EMA), will continue to give their annual Storm Fury on the Plains presentations in Whitewater and Andover in April.
The Butler County Master Gardeners are excited about hosting the third annual Lawn and Garden Show—”Grow and Bloom in Butler” on April 5th and 6th at the Butler County Community/4H Building, 200 N. Griffith, in El Dorado. Community members are invited to stroll through the vendor booths, listen to informative talks about everything from Wildlife Control in the Garden to Houseplants, and enter to win a variety of door prizes. Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 5th, and 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 6th. Admission is free.
Recent reports in the media that the Social Security Administration (SSA) is permanently closing local field offices are false. Since January 1, 2025, the agency has not permanently closed or announced the permanent closure of any local field office. From time to time, SSA must temporarily close a local field office for reasons such as weather, damage, or facilities issues, and it reopens when the issues are resolved. The agency has announced the permanent closure of one hearing office, in White Plains, NY.
TOPEKA — The Kansas House shot down a property tax relief plan in a game of back and forth with the Senate, which defeated the resolution on Wednesday but revived it Thursday for the House’s consideration.
An informational seminar was held and open to the public on Tuesday, March 25 at the Civic Center in El Dorado. The seminar attracted over 40 attendees who were informed attendees on the facts of human trafficking and what signs to look for in children and adult victims.
