Andover High graduate of 2005 Bryan Knowles will be performing at Bricks Bar & Grill for the first time on March 17 at 7 P.M. for Saint Patrick’s Day. Bringing a mix of country rock and southern red dirt music with him, the night is sure to be a hit. Knowles has played at local staples like Sugar Shane’s, the Latham Saloon in Latham, the Prairie House Café in Leon and True Lies in El Dorado.
The Augusta Historic Theater will once again be hosting a live music performance on Friday, Feb. 17. They’re bringing the Haymakers from Wichita to stage. Haymakers is a four-piece string band encapsulating a variety of sounds from Appalachian to Americana to western swing and traditional folk.
Augusta will be seeing some live music this Saturday, Jan. 21 on the historic red brick road. The local all-male four-piece band Flashpoint will be playing at Bricks Bar & Grill from 8:30 P.M. – 12:30 A.M. This will be the first time Bricks Bar & Grill will host a live band under the new ownership of Dani and David Darrow. With live entertainment scheduled once a month until June, the couple is planning to host a DJ/Karoke night or live music once a month.
El Dorado High School (EHS) presents Seussical the musical on Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in the EHS Auditorium. Adult tickets are $10 and student tickets are $8. The musical is based on many of the Dr. Seuss children’s stories. “Please come out and support these kids,” said Katie Banks-Todd, Vocal Music and Drama teacher at EHS.
Dear Readers, It was the music that brought us all to Winfield for the experiences I shared in the two previous columns, “Happy Camper” and “Friends, Old and New.” And in that regard, music is where I should have begun this column series. But words do not capture the experience of experiencing music. This is particularly true when it comes to the live music for which the Walnut Valley Festival is renowned, performed day and night, on stages and around campfires by both world-class paid performers and amateur talent.
Jesse Friesen, Butler County local, has grown up around folk, bluegrass and cowboy music ever since he can remember. With his parents working at KFDI since he was a child, he’s had a great amount of musical influence his entire life.
