When Suzie Wright was a freshman, she was able to run cross country and track with her sisters Savannah and Sarah for a season.
Four years later, Suzie will be able to run with both of them again.
Suzie, now a senior at Douglass High School, signed a letter of intent to compete for the Wichita State University cross country and track and field teams next year. She is joining her sisters, who already are athletes at WSU.
Suzie continued the tradition of strong running in her family all four years of high school. She said she and her older sisters help motivate each other.
"There's a healthy competition," Suzie said. "We always joke with each other and say 'I beat your PR' or 'I ran well at this race. But we build each other up."
Like her older sisters, Suzie's accomplishments at Douglass are impressive. Suzie was a part of three state championship cross country teams and a third-place team this past season. She took second place at the Central Plains League race. She had four top 7 finishes in four Regional meets throughout her high school career. Individually at State, she placed 10th, sixth, seventh and 10th. During track season, she earned medals her first three seasons, as well.
At WSU, Suzie plans to study exercise science.
