The Lady Wildcats snapped off two consecutive wins over AVCTL rivals at their Lady Cat Classic to run to a 5th place finish over the weekend.

The Wildcats first victory came against Augusta in a 41-38 nailbiter.

“We held our composure at the end of the game, we made some key free throws at the end of the game and we were able to run our offense and play together as a team and the result was a victory,” said El Dorado head coach Shauna Riedy.

The Wildcats were led by Hannah Helferich with 16 points going 4-6 from the line including the game sealing points from the charity stripe.

“The game was on the line and it would have put a big burden on my shoulders if I did not make them and we didn’t win,” said El Dorado guard Hannah Helferich on her clutch free throws to seal the win for El Dorado.

El Dorado was down 17-16 at halftime and came out in the third and out scored Augusta 16-11 to gain a 32-28 lead going into the fourth.

Augusta outscored the Lady Wildcats 10-9 in the fourth but it was not enough.

“We played well as a team and kept our game speed throughout the full 32 minutes of the game,” said Helferich.

Andrea Valadez had 10 points and Justice Rice had 6 points.

Morgan Limon had 5 points including a buzzer beating three pointer.

“In the second half we focused on getting the ball inside the paint on them as they were playing smaller so we played the mismatch to our advantage early getting some good looks at the basket,” said Riedy.

El Dorado followed their victory over Augusta with a blowout win over Wichita Collegiate 46-27.

El Dorado ran out to a 26-20 lead after the first half.

The Lady Wildcats then clamped down defensively in the final two quarters allowing the Spartans only 7 points meanwhile scoring another 20 of their own to grab the big win.

Helferich led with 12 points. Kalyn Beel and Valadez poured in 9 points each.

Rice and Destiny Smith each had 7 points and Erin Hildreth had two points.

The Lady Wildcat will be back in action tonight as they host familiar foe Circle at 6 p.m.
