Tommie Willis Daniels McGowin, 99, died in Okmulgee, Okla. on Oct. 8, 2012. She was the fourth child born to Martin Newton Daniels and Rosa Lee (Daniel) Daniels, was born Dec. 26, 1912 at the Daniels farm in the Narcissus Community, Okmulgee County. A total of five girls and four boys completed the Daniels family. Toy Cecil McGowin and Tommie Willis Daniels were married Nov. 21, 1932 at the First Christian Church, Okmulgee. Except for a brief move to Tucson, Ariz. and then later to Nu Hall, Calif. for a number of months, Tommie Willis lived her entire life in Okmulgee County. The young McGowin family moved into Okmulgee on Thanksgiving Day 1940 and lived in town from that point on. She was a loving mother and wife who enjoyed her life’s work as a homemaker. She was baptized into Christ by Pastor Smyser, First Christian Church, Morris, Okla. in 1928. She was a member of Town and Country Christian Church, Okmulgee, Okla. since early 1960s. She was also a member of PALS (Patient and Loving Servants) group at her church and a 62-year member of the Home Demonstration Club, now known as Oklahoma Home and Community Education (OHCE).
Tommie Willis was preceded in death by her parents; husband Toy C. McGowin after a marriage of over 67 years; three sisters Deraughn Heiple, Rachel Colvin and Mae Norwood; three brothers Wilbur Daniels, Fred Daniels and Lester Daniels; and three grandchildren Dean Dunnam, Rynda Dunnam and Dale Dunnam. Her survivors include three children Ruth McGowin Dunnam of Ft. Worth, Twxas, Stanley McGowin and wife Vivian of El Dorado, and Marilyn McGowin Kuban and husband Jimmy of Ft. Worth, Texas, four grandchildren Brenda McGowin Williams, Audrey McGowin, Ronnie Kuban and Mark Kuban, five great-grandchildren Chris Dunnam, Krystal Dunnam, Cody Kuban, Katie Kuban and Kyle Kuban, one sister Thelma Daniels of Lawrence, Kan. and a brother JC Daniels of El Cajon, Calif.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Town and Country Christian Church with Pastor Timothy Reeves and Rev. Mike Kennedy officiating. Interment will be in the Okmulgee Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Kuban, Ronnie Kuban, Mark Kuban, Chris Dunnam, Cody Kuban and Timothy Craighton. The family suggests memorial donations to the Town and Country Christian Church in her name. Services are entrusted to the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
