Franklin “Frank” G. Kratzer

Franklin “Frank” G. Kratzer’s life began on October 14, 1947 in Cameron, MO; the son of Nelson G. and Bessie M. (Shepherd) Kratzer. Frank moved to the El Dorado area to pursue his education and graduated from Butler Community College. He worked hard all of his life and gave his heart in all he did. Frank worked for Kansas Emulsions for 22 years, the El Dorado Police Department for 20 years and for the Carlson and Kirby-Morris Funeral Homes for 16 years, and recently, Frank worked for Pioneer Balloon. He married Kay McElwain in 1985 and they shared over 37years of marriage together. Frank had a giving heart and had an industrious spirit. He proudly served on the Salvation Army Board for several years, C.A.S.A, a two time Jaycee President, and was an Elks member. Frank loved to ride motorcycles and enjoyed his Harley. He had a gift with children and spent much of his time while working in law enforcement as a school resource officer and DARE officer, impacting the lives of students every day. If you asked him, those students were “his students” and he claimed them all. Frank was generous with his time volunteering as much as he could and was generous to charity. Frank had a deep love for animals and opened his home for many rescues throughout the years. Frank will always be remembered for his kindness, his sense of humor and outlook on life and his ability to love and enjoy people. His greatest joy was his family; which includes the light of his life, Kay of El Dorado; several nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and great-nephews; brother and sister-in-laws Larry and Susan McElwain; step brother Tom Ward, step sister, Connie Houchins and many extended cousins, family, friends, and colleagues that will miss him dearly. Frank passed away on August 18, 2022 after a battle with cancer at home. He is preceded in death by his brother Richard Morris and his parents. Friends may gather with the family from 5-7pm on Thursday, August 25 at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 26 at 11am at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home. Frank will be laid to rest at Belle Vista Cemetery in El Dorado. Memorial contributions in Frank’s name may be directed to the El Dorado Animal Shelter; to the Susan B.
