Virgil Carl Hogoboom Jr. II

Virgil Carl Hogoboom Jr. II (Junior), 80, El Dorado, Kansas was born May 18, 1941 to Virgil Sr and Mary (Cundell) Hogoboom, but was raised by Virgil Sr and Sarah Faye Hogoboom (which Virgil considered his mother). Virgil departed this life on February 4, 2022 at St Francis Hospital.

Virgil spent his childhood in El Dorado, Kansas and went to Oil Hill School (1959) when he lacked one week to graduate and ended up joining the Army (1959-1964) and was stationed in Germany, where he became a cook. In October 1964 is when Virgil met Florence in Buffalo, Missouri. Where they met on a blind date and were married a week later. Virgil and Florence were married on October 23, 1964 in Tunas Missouri.

Virgil’s life was always about spending time with his family. He enjoyed going Elk hunting in Colorado to deer hunting in Missouri. He enjoyed going fishing and spending time at the cabin in Clements, Kansas. Virgil was a hard-working man, and would give the shirt off his back to anyone that needed it. Anyone that knew Virgil knew what kind of person he was, and of course how ornery, he could be. You never knew what was going come out of his mouth.

Virgil was inducted into the Butler County Historical Society, Home of the Kansas Oil Museum on April 16, 2010.

Surviving to honor his memory are his loving family, which includes his wife, Florence Hogoboom of El Dorado, son, Virgil Hogoboom Jr III (JR) and his wife Sheila of El Dorado, daughter Christina (Tina) Martin and husband Clyde of Towanda, son Timothy (Tim) Hogoboom and his wife Amanda of El Dorado, daughter Tammy Hand and husband Terry; and one sister Eva (Bunny) Garlick of Wichita; and 17 grand-children, and 20 great grand-children, along with several nieces and nephews.
