EL DORADO – Donald “Don” Grunder, of El Dorado, KS passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at the age 85. Donald was born on May 16, 1936 in Wichita, KS to William and Thelma (Orr) Grunder. Don graduated from Cassoday High School in 1954. He married the love of his life, Tonnie Martin, on August 14, 1978 in Miami, Oklahoma. He was proud to be a member of Local Union 5-241. He was a unit operator and pipe fitter for the El Dorado Refinery and retired in 1994 at the age of 58. Don and Tonnie loved to dance and were members of the Chelsea Swinging Square. They loved to travel south to Texas for the winters and were known as“winter Texans”. Don also owned the Hawaiian Inn with his friend Bob Petty in the 1970’s. He loved watching his son and grandchildren grow, and especially loved watching his grandchildren’s sporting events and other activities.
Don is survived by his wife, Tonnie Grunder; son, Tony Grunder; grandchildren, Taylor (Nick Day) Grunder and Alec Grunder; sister, Novale (Don) Miller of El Dorado, Kansas; and brother, Carl (Susan) Grunder of Cassoday, Kansas.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, William and Thelma (Orr) Grunder; sister, Margaret Wood; and brother, Jim Grunder.
Don will lie in state at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home from 9am – 5pm on Friday, February 4, 2022, with visitation to follow from 5-7pm the same evening. Private family interment will take place at a later date.
