Augusta under Flood Warning until Saturday

Flood Warning for the Walnut River and Whitewater River is in effect.

For the Walnut River:

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for the Walnut River, affecting the city of Augusta. This warning is in effect from Thursday afternoon into Friday afternoon. The river is currently measured at 5.7ft stage with a 23ft flood stage.

Here’s the forecast:

The river is expected to rise above flood stage Thursday afternoon to a crest of 24.5 feet Thursday evening. It will then fall below flood stage early Friday morning.

Here’s what can happen:

-At 24.0 feet, A narrow strip of about 80 feet on the right bank begins to overflow.

For the Whitewater River:

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for the Whitewater River, affecting the city of Augusta. This warning is in effect from late Thursday night into Saturday morning. The river is currently measured at 3.8ft stage with a 21ft flood stage.

Here’s the forecast:

The river is expected to rise above flood stage early Friday morning to a crest of 25.7 feet early Friday afternoon. It will then fall below flood stage Friday evening.

Here’s what can happen:

-At 24.0 feet, flood waters will flow over Southwest 70th Street just east of the river bridge located 3 miles northwest of Augusta and flows across Southwest 60th Street near the river bridge located about 4 miles northwest of town.
