EL DORADO: Evacuation notices: The City of El Dorado has reported that emergency crews will be evacuating residents in the Riverside Area on North Main Street between 8th and 12th avenues. Crews will be going door to door to assist residents. Please be prepared. Drivers should avoid that area due to the flooding.
The City has also issued a voluntary evacuation in the area from Topeka to Lawndale and 8th to McCollum. A voluntary evacuation order has been issued for the Riverview area, including Walnut River Apartments.
Those evacuating can go to the Butler County Community Building (4-H Building) located at 206 N Griffith. This shelter is being managed by the American Red Cross. All pets are allowed with crates and lashes. The team will begin to prepare for overnight stays so they are ready if this is necessary. If you do evacuate and need to utilize a shelter, the team asks that you consider to bring the following items if you’re able:
-Baby items
-Pet food/items
-Medications for pets, yourself and children
-Blanket, pillow
-Hygiene products such as toothpaste, toothbrush
On the south side of town, residents can evacuate to Temple Baptist Church located at 925 Douglas Road. This shelter is being managed by church volunteers. All pets are welcome in a crate or on a leash. An outdoor area is available for pet relief. As of now, the shelter will close at 7pm but will remain open if anyone needs the space.
