For one night only, the feature film, “Sod and Stubble”, will be shown at the Kansas Oil Museum. The film is written and directed by Butler County resident and Butler County Historical Society History Consultant, Ken Spurgeon.

Spurgeon’s film tells the story of the Ise family who homesteaded in Osborne County during the 1870’s. Produced by New Albany Films, Sod and Stubble LLC, and distributed by Purdie Distribution, the film portrays Kansas history and perseverance on the prairie.

Portions of the film were shot in El Dorado at the Butler County Historical Society Home of the Kansas Oil Museum. Before the showing on Saturday, May 10, attendees who selected the VIP package will have the opportunity to tour the film locations at the museum.

Full of real history and impactful reenactments, the film is based on the autobiographical novel by John Ise with additional material added by Von Rothenberger in the 1990’s. Their story follows Henry and Rosie Ise as they battle hardships and build a life through grit and resilience.

The VIP experience begins at 5:30pm with doors opening for general admission at 6:45pm and the film beginning at 7pm. Tickets are available to see the film only and for VIP packages. The VIP packages include:
