McConnell Air Force Base has reported that they will be executing several controlled burns over the week.

Controlled burns are referred to as fires that are intentionally set to remove excess or unwanted vegetation growth. Farmers utilize this practice to renew their fields as well as remove unwanted growth and reduce the risk of uncontrolled wildfires. McConnell Air Force Base is no exception.

The controlled burns were planned to begin this morning at 8am around the southeast end near 47th Street and Rock Road. After assessing weather predictions and patterns, burning may continue into the weekend as they move westward. The areas have been prepped by the Air Force Wildland Fire Branch to ensure safe execution.
