Two men arrested after multi-drug seizure

Burgess of Wellington faces four felony charges

On Wednesday, March 5, two men were arrested following a traffic stop that ended in a multi-drug seizure. The Butler County Sheriff’s Office says they seized 2.8 lbs of marijuana, 92 grams of methamphetamine and one gram of fentanyl.

The two men, identified as Clay Burgess, 30, of Wellington and Cody Ross, 35, of Blackwell, Oklahoma, were driving in the 9800 block of Santa Fe Lake Road when they were pulled over for failure to use a turn signal. Upon beginning the process of speaking with the two inside the vehicle, a Deputy with the Sheriff’s Office identified the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

The Deputy then requested to search the car on probable cause and later found the drugs inside. The two were arrested a transported to the Butler County jail.

Burgess is facing one infraction charge of unsafe turning or stopping, one misdemeanor charge of no proof of insurance, a felony charge of no proof of having a drug tax stamp, a felony charge of possession of fentanyl, a felony charge of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. He was bailed out on March 5. His next court appearance is on April 21.

Ross was released from the jail with no charges filed as of March 11. All parties involved are innocent until proven guilty.
