On Tuesday night the El Dorado City Commission passed an ordinance that would allow the sale of alcoholic beverages before 12pm on Sundays.

Kansas Statute 41-712 b states that the retail sale of alcohol may happen between the hours of 9am-8pm on Sundays and 9am-11pm Monday-Friday except for Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day. Previously the statute only allowed the retail sale of alcohol to be from 12-8pm but was modified in 2021.

The ordinance modification for El Dorado was brought forth after a local liquor store asked the city to change the ordinance due to the State of Kansas changing the law in 2021. After looking at neighboring cities, the City concluded that they would also change theirs.

Andover and Augusta allow the sale on Sunday from 9am-8pm while Leon and Rose Hill allow the sale from 12-8pm.

The ordinance was passed unanimously with no discussion or questions asked.
