The City of Andover adopted a new city logo on Tuesday evening during the City Council meeting.
The logo, which was created by Greteman Group based out of Wichita, simplified and modernized the old design while keeping key aspects. The logo cost the City $30,000, which was paid half in 2024 and the remaining half with be paid this year. That cost included an overview of the City of Andover as a whole, including research to learn the community’s core values and goals, surveys of stakeholders, employees and community members, four logo concept options and multiple final logo graphics.
The project began in December 2023 where the idea of a redesign and update was brought to the table during a work session. On April 12, 2024, the City issued a Request for Proposal which brought in 36 agency submissions. The selection committee, which comprised of City Council Member Mike Warrington, Andover Public Schools Director Terry Rombeck, City Administrator Jennifer McCausland, and Public Information Officer Megan Schapaugh, ultimately chose Greteman Group as the sole project contractor.
The findings from the graphic design agency were that people seek out Andover for community, family and quality of life. Words that people used to describe Andover were clean, friendly, vibrant, educated, affluent, quaint, and more. The community described the greatest benefits of Andover ask the schools, safety, community, proximity to Wichita, quality of life, parks, and family.
The City said is a release that the chosen logo is an evolution of the old logo with new marks.
“The chosen idea, an evolution of the beloved city logo, builds on the equity and community admiration for the current brand. It elevates the mark in several ways, straightening up the “A” shape to appear stable, strong, and symmetrical. We simplified and reduced the number of rays, making it easier to reproduce and brightened the color palette to a contemporary vibe. A bold wordmark was created centering the ”O” under the Kansas sun.”
The logo will be implemented throughout 2025 and coming years as materials are printed, ordered and replaced. The digital logo is already being used and was even printed on vinyl and placed on the podium for Thursday’s ground breaking of The Lodge.
