The Butler County Sheriff’s Office and partnering agencies within Butler County are “flushing” residents to raise money for the construction of a Butler County Law Enforcement Memorial.

In a collaborative effort with county-wide agencies, the Sheriff’s Office has begun a fundraising effort with a unique twist. In addition to collecting monetary donations, the Sheriff’s Office is placing porcelain thrones on resident lawns upon request of a prior resident. The toilet is white with a graphic wrap that reads, “You’ve been flushed!”.

Once the toilet arrives in someone’s yard, they can have it removed for $25 and placed on someone else’s lawn of their choosing. For $50, residents can ensure it skips their lawn entirely in the future, called a permanent Royal Flush. All funds collected through the process of removal and flushing will be directed to the memorial.

The Butler County Law Enforcement Memorial is slated to be constructed outside of the Butler County Sheriff’s Office located at 141 S Gordy St in El Dorado. The memorial will run the length of the building, comprised of black marble or granite. The dark rock will have a glowing thin blue line in the center of it with a potential shallow waterfall. Names of law enforcement officers of any rank that died in the line of duty while serving Butler County will be etched into the stone, allowing visitors to pay respects and remember their service to the public. Wreaths will accompany the memorial on the brick columns along the building.

There are currently toilets moving among the communities in Andover, Augusta, El Dorado and Rose Hill. A couple other toilets will emerge in the coming weeks. To donate to the fund without the toilet, visit the Central Kansas Community Foundation website, https://centralkansascf.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/create/fund?funit_id=2750.
