The Kansas Department of Transportation, (KDOT), announced that U.S. 400 will close on Saturday evening in order to accommodate the installation of a bridge on the Redbud Trail. The closure will affect traffic heading westbound out of Augusta and eastbound out of Andover.

On October 4 at 8pm, drivers can expect U.S. 400 to be closed for a portion of the highway with detours set to guide them. The closure will allow for the installation of a bridge that will connect the Redbud Trail over the highway.

Drivers traveling eastbound out of Andover will be detoured on Andover Road north to 21st Street/SW 70th, east to Santa Fe Lake Road and then back south to the highway. Westbound traffic will utilize the same routes in the reverse direction. Drivers can keep an eye out for electronic signs that will guide them through the detour on each corner.

This project is part of an ongoing effort to connect the Redbud Trail, a rail trail that takes pedestrians and bicyclers through a 50-mile trail that connects Augusta, Andover, Wichita, Garden Plain and beyond. Augusta’s downtown has been poised as the trailhead for the trail network.

The installation is expected to be completed with the highway back open before noon on Sunday, October 5. For current road conditions, visit kandrive.gov or call 511. For updates on construction projects in south central Kansas, visit ksdot.gov/southcentralnews.
