The historical downtown district of El Dorado will once again see witches take over Main Street as the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce hosts Witches Night Out.
The spooky and fun event is back for a second year to stimulate the downtown economy while giving adults who love Halloween a fun night out. This year an additional feature has been added to the fun – participation is entirely free.
“I see this event growing into such a fun tradition for our community and by making passports free this year, we’re opening the door for even more people to experience Witches Night Out,” said Paige McDaniel, Interim Executive Director of the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce. “It’s a night to celebrate creativity, support our local businesses, and have a great time with friends.”
In order to make the event more accessible and welcoming to all who’d like to participate, it was decided to make entry into the event free. This was made possible with the support of several local businesses who have planned and organized the event.
During the event, participants will check in at a table with the Chamber of Commerce where they will pick up a passport that will guide them through downtown shops. Each shop will offer a themed activity for each participant to partake in. Anything from tarot card reading, a love potion station, photo booth, a Halloween wreath station, a haunted doll, snacks, drinks and more will be available to experience.
If that wasn’t enough, some local businesses will also be offering exclusive deals to those participating. Once the witches complete their passport and get stamps from all businesses, they will be entered into a grand prize drawing consisting of a basket filled with local goods.
So far, 12 local businesses will be on the passport map with five vendors scattered throughout the scene. Last year’s event attracted 50 participants.
To participate, witches 18+ are encouraged to dress in their best outfit, hats and bring their brooms – although dressing up isn’t required, it can enter the witch for a contest.
Contests this year will include Best Witch Costume contest, Best Group contest, or, for those who prefer to skip the costume, Best Witch’s Hat contest. All contests will be judged the night of the event with prizes for winners.
Those exploring downtown on October 10, beware of the witches amongst you. They will take flight from 6-9pm just for one night, only to return next year.
