2025 OUTLOOK
The Flinthills Mustangs enter 2025 with a roster that combines impact newcomers, proven two-way returners, and a sophomore quarterback stepping into the spotlight, all reasons for optimism as the program looks to push back toward the playoffs.
Head coach Chase Casteel, now in his sixth season, welcomes a major addition in junior Beau Hall, who transferred in from El Dorado. Hall led ElDo in rushing last fall with 392 yards and gives the Mustangs speed and versatility in the backfield. His presence should take pressure off sophomore quarterback Kaleb Grunder, who takes over for Charles Farris after throwing for 277 yards and two touchdowns in limited duty last season.
Grunder inherits an offense with balance. Hall’s burst complements junior Tripp Carney, the team’s leading returning rusher with 217 yards and two touchdowns. Carney has also been the heartbeat of the defense, where he recorded 68 tackles a year ago, including 11 for loss and three sacks. His ability to lead both sides of the ball gives Flinthills a steadying force.
Defensively, the Mustangs also return sophomore Ty Finley, who made an immediate impact as a freshman by leading the team with two interceptions. Finley’s instincts in the secondary, paired with Carney’s physical play in the front seven, provide a strong foundation for improvement.
Seniors Mason Randall, Taylor Carroll, and Jaxon Swafford bring veteran stability on the line, while juniors Talon Scribner and Deken Girty add depth and experience across skill and line positions. With so many contributors back, Casteel expects the Mustangs to show more consistency on both sides of the ball.
The offense should be more versatile this fall with Hall’s quickness, Carney’s power running, and Grunder’s growing confidence under center. Defensively, Flinthills believe their ability to create pressure up front and generate turnovers can keep them competitive in the SCBL.
