2025 OUTLOOK

A year ago, the Douglass Bulldogs showed signs of progress under first-year head coach Drew Carder, finishing 2-7 while battling through injuries and lineup shuffles. Now, with nine starters back on offense and eight on defense, the Bulldogs believe the foundation is in place to take another step forward in 2025.

Carder, entering his second season, points to continuity and growth in the system as key strengths. “This current group of players has had to do a lot of trial by fire through their high school careers,” Carder said. “They continue to work hard and grow every offseason, and we are looking forward to seeing some of their efforts pay off on the field this season.”

Much of the optimism stems from the return of Carter Green, who powered the Bulldogs last fall with 671 rushing yards, 94 receiving yards, and seven total touchdowns. A two-way standout, Green was named second-team All-Central Plains League at both running back and linebacker. He also made his mark as a wrestler, finishing state runner-up as a freshman and state champion as a sophomore. This fall, he will again be leaned on heavily as both a playmaker and defensive leader.

The Bulldogs also return junior quarterback Kane Ast, who passed for 330 yards before suffering a torn ACL midway through the season. His health, paired with the experience of junior receivers Wyatt Moore (105 yards, two interceptions on defense) and Bronsyn Knisley (19-yard receiving average), should give Douglass more balance in the passing game. Senior Charlie Kielhorn (234 rushing yards, 44 tackles) and senior lineman Jaxon Brewer, an all-league and all-district selection, provide steady veteran leadership.

The offensive line, featuring returners like Logan Spradling, Tanner Allan, and Trevor Allan, gives Douglass an experienced front capable of opening running lanes. Defensively, Brewer, Green, and Moore headline a group that has grown battle-tested against Central Plains League competition.

Depth remains a concern, particularly in the front seven, but the Bulldogs believe their strength in returning starters and comfort in the system will help them compete. With Green leading on both sides of the ball, Ast healthy under center, and a veteran line paving the way, Douglass looks ready to continue its climb.
