2025 OUTLOOK

The Augusta Orioles head into 2025 with one of the state’s most versatile seniors at the center of their rebuild under second-year head coach Dawson Elliott.

Brody Haskell opened last fall at wide receiver and defensive back, where his speed and instincts made him a playmaker. When quarterback Cade Camac went down early, Haskell stepped into a full-time role under center and did whatever the team needed. He became the face of the Orioles’ offense and delivered in every phase of the game.

Haskell finished 2024 with 1,050 passing yards and four touchdowns, 345 rushing yards with two scores, and 10 receptions for 200 yards and two more touchdowns. His performance in the win over Abilene, Augusta’s lone victory, became a defining moment in an otherwise difficult season.

Now a senior, Haskell returns as the centerpiece of the offense and the unquestioned leader of a program eager to take a step forward.

He will be joined by reliable weapons on the perimeter. Senior wideout Brecken Albert developed into the top target last season, catching 52 passes for 776 yards and three touchdowns while also recording four interceptions on defense. Senior Owen Roberts adds balance with 37 catches and two rushing touchdowns, giving Augusta another proven playmaker.

Defensively, the Orioles bring back key experience in the secondary with seniors Rylee McMichael (35 tackles, two interceptions) and Roman Bridwell (23 tackles, two interceptions). The front seven is anchored by Gunner Carey, Griffin Tatum, Tyler Henman, Mason Pringle, and Camac, who will also contribute at linebacker.

Augusta’s strengths are its skill players and veteran leadership, while the biggest challenge will be rebuilding an offensive line that lost key contributors. Still, Elliott believes the hard lessons of 2024 will pay off in 2025.

“We faced some of the league’s top competition and held our own in moments where we showed flashes of brilliance,” Elliott said. “While the scoreboard didn’t always reflect the effort, the fight and determination on the field was undeniable. Each game was a stepping stone, a learning experience, and a chance for our younger players to gain valuable experience.”

The Orioles host Winfield, Mulvane, Abilene, and McPherson in October before closing the regular season at home against rival Circle. The finale has the makings of a pivotal matchup for playoff seeding.
