A letter from Mayor Mike Rawlings

To the Folks of Augusta, KS,

I want to thank all of you for supporting our wonderful community.

While I was out and about today, I was reminded again of what makes Augusta so special. At Garvin Park, a spirited baseball tournament was underway, with disc golfers weaving through the trees nearby. Down by the lake, folks were casting lines from the shore and drifting gently in boats. The dog park had some happy pups running around, and both Castle Park and Dalton Palmer Memorial Park were full of kids laughing and playing on the playgrounds.

Downtown was lively too—there’s a chalk drawing contest happening, and you could hear the sound of bowling balls down at the alley, with a few strikes and probably a few gutter balls too. Sugar Shane’s was starting to fill up with lunch guests, and the doughnut shop with the tastiest doughnuts in all of Kansas had a steady stream of folks coming and going.

In all, it struck me once more what a truly fine place Augusta is to live, raise one’s children, and someday retire. We are blessed with a devoted city staff—from our diligent city manager to the hardworking folks in every department—who help keep our town humming.

Thanks again, neighbors, for being the heart of this town.

Sincerely,

Mayor Rawlings
