Money is matched to purchase women’s health model
The El Dorado Soroptimist International Club donated $320 to the Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital Foundation, which in turn was matched twice, allowing enough money to purchase a new women’s health model for the hospital.
The money donated was an annual donation the El Dorado Soroptimist Club gives out through volunteer member donations. Each person gives what they can, if they can, and they then decide who to donate the money to as a group. This makes the second time the club has donated to the SBAMH Foundation to support women’s health at the local hospital.
The money was stretched even further as the SBAMH Foundation matched the donation as well as the SBAMH Auxiliary Club, tripling the original number. The final amount totals to $960. The funds will be allocated to the Women’s Health Fund and used to purchase a gynecological model that will be used for childbirth education as well as assisting with staff training.
“We are so grateful to be able to support women’s health through this fund,” said Holly Landon, Executive Director of the Foundation, Volunteer Services and Marketing/Communication. “The El Dorado Soroptimists have donated to us twice now and we match every dollar through the Foundation and Auxiliary to make an even bigger impact!”
The El Dorado Soroptimists International Club is a non-profit, member driven organization that exists to uplift and support the women and girls of El Dorado. They give out an annual scholarship to a Butler Community College female student, give volunteer annual donations, and provide education as opportunities arise. They aim to educate because it has been proven that women and girls are are less vulnerable to sex trafficking, lead more productive lives, are more likely to leave a violent or abusive relationship, more likely to have access to healthcare, less likely to live in poverty, and raise stronger families with more likelihood to educate their own daughters when they are educated.
The Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital Foundation is dedicated to fulfilling the hospital’s mission of providing compassionate, professional healthcare to the communities they serve. The Foundation acts as a fundraising avenue for the hospital, accepting charitable gifts that are used for maintaining and improving the programs and services at the hospital.
The Susan B. Allen Hospital Auxiliary, founded in 1922, comprises of both men and women within the community who join together to volunteer to benefit the hospital. Their main fundraising goals are to fundraise for student health scholarships and equipment for the hospital. The Auxiliary has over 120 individual members who meet the fourth Thursday of every month from January-May and September-November. The meetings begin at 9:30am hosted at the Wiedemann Health Education Building.
The Auxiliarians devote themselves to one of the following categories; Calling, Finance, Fundraising, Gift Shop, Historian/Scrapbook, Hospitality, In-Hospital Volunteers, Legislative, Membership, Programs, Publicity, Scholarships, Sewing Saints, Special Projects.
