After the closing of Russell’s Daylight Donuts in mid-January, the busy donut stop on Central Avenue in El Dorado has remained closed for the last few months. While there have been rumors of Donut Palace from Augusta opening, those rumors can officially be laid to rest.
Customers will continue to enjoy the same great tasting Daylight Donut recipe they’ve loved for years as new owners have purchased and are close to reopening the beloved donut stop.
Husband and wife duo Phalla Phan and Chenda Ngoun purchased the building located at 1243 W Central Ave. Although it was first purchased by Chivon Mab, Owner of Donut Palace, he has decided not to move forward on the venture as he continues to focus on his main location in Augusta. It was the perfect timing for his friends to purchase it from him so they can continue their own donut business.
“We visited our friend Mab and drove around El Dorado,” said Phan. “We decided we liked it here and agreed to move our business. We are happy but our customers in OKC are sad to see us go!”
Phan and Ngoun moved to El Dorado from Oklahoma City, (OKC), to run the shop. They’ve spent the last four years running a Daylight Donuts shop in OKC as they raise their family of two boys. Before living in OKC, they couple resided in Boston for 15 years.
Their two sons, aged 16 and 13, will finish the school year in OKC with their grandmother before moving to El Dorado to continue school at USD 490.
In addition to the donut menu, they will offer homemade sausage rolls, biscuits and gravy, biscuit sandwiches, croissant sandwiches and burritos that are all made from scratch.
The couple teased that they make the best sausage rolls around.
“We’re happy to be here and happy to be doing business here,” said Phan.
Daylight Donuts will open on May 5 at 4am with a special running all day long. Buy one dozen donuts, get one dozen donut holes for free. The shop will be open seven days a week from 4am-1pm Monday-Friday and 5am-1pm on weekends. Hours may adjust as they learn the community needs and market.
