The Butler County Times-Gazette team has worked diligently in past years to bring real, local, hometown news back to the largest county in the state. Through dedication and hard work, the small team is building relationships, documenting history and news is buzzing once again.

For the first time since CherryRoad Media has owned the Times-Gazette, 13 entries were submitted to the Kansas Press Association’s Awards of Excellence with three being recognized. While this is a great honor for the hometown newspaper, it signifies a recognition of the stories that were told through the stories submitted.

If not for those willing to speak with and connect with the news and sports staff, these stories would not be possible. The people of and readers of the Times-Gazette have made this possible.

The winning entries were:

2nd place

News Story: Community concerned about predator, window peeper

Video Journalism: Andover YMCA celebrates grand opening

3rd place

Column Writing: Explore El Dorado

Award winning or not, the Times-Gazette, supported by CherryRoad Media, will continue to bring readers the news that matters while listening to their stories, opinions and news tips submitted. Bringing the community together through business spotlighting, special interest stories and shining a light on history, community achievements, current events and more that make Butler County unique.

The 2025 Kansas Press Association Awards of Excellence will be presented at the conclusion of a two-day conference at the beginning of June in Salina. The Times-Gazette will be present to receive the certifications of recognition during the conference.
