In an effort to educate and provide resources to the community, the Augusta United Methodist Church’s Wellness Committee has scheduled a free mental health program series. The series will dive into several topics such as anger management, emotion regulation, isolation and possible solutions and coping mechanisms.
Mental health has been a long-time stigmatized topic among adults. Seeing a therapist has been seen as a highly personal and problematic thing to do. Even discussing emotions can be triggering for those that have experienced any type of trauma and are unsure of how to handle it. This myriad of things have convoluted our country into several deep-rooted issues that can’t be solved overnight or by one single magic fix.
The AUMC Wellness Committee is taking just one step towards the progress of helping solve the issue through community outreach. The schedule is as follows:
Monday, March 3 at 6pm
Professionals from South Central Mental Health will talk about how anger and emotion regulation can be essential tools for a healthier, more balanced life. The team will present ways to handle anger and tips to control and channel it into positive behavior. A supper of soup will be served.
Sunday, April 6 at 12pm
Audry Trowbridge from Grange will discuss how isolation can present such difficult challenges for rural and small towns. A light luncheon will be provided.
All programs will be at the AUMC located at 2420 N. Ohio in Augusta. To reserve a spot in one of the programs, call Beth at AUMC at 316-775-1116.
