Winter Storm Warning issued for the weekend

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Butler County starting 6am on Saturday, January 4 and ending 3pm on Sunday, January 5. Heavy mixed precipitation and blizzard conditions are possible.

-Total snow accumulations between 1-5 inches south of US Highway 50 and between 5-10 inches for areas along and north of US Highway 50.

-Sleet accumulations around one third of an inch and ice accumulations between one tenth and one half of an inch are possible. Winds could gust as high as 50mph and result in near-blizzard conditions.

-Temperatures are predicted to be in the 20’s.

Remember to DRIVE SLOW during winter weather and leave extra lead time between yourself and other drivers. The roads can easily become slick if snow or ice accumulates. Keep a flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. If you venture outdoors, make sure to dress is warm layers with gloves to protect skin and the possibility of frost bite.

Icey weather can also cause power outages. Be prepared. Protect your water pipes now and have a backup generator or candles and alternate form of heat available to you and your family. Road condition updates can be obtained by calling 511.
