The City of Andover is set to adopt a new logo during the City Council meeting on Tuesday, January 14. The new logo comes to fruition as the city feels as though they’ve outgrown the old logo with rapid growth as well as a need for modernization.
The discussion of a new logo began in December 2023 during a City Council Work Session. The City released a Request for Proposal on April 12, 2024 which was returned with 36 submissions. The selection committee, made up of City Council Member Mike Warrington, Andover Public Schools Director Terry Rombeck, City Administrator McCausland, and Public Information Officer for the City of Andover Megan Schapaugh, carefully reviewed and ranked the proposals.
“The current logo has served the City of Andover well since the 1990s,” said Schapaugh,. “However, with three decades of growth and transformation in our community, it was time for a refresh that reflects the vibrant and progressive city we’ve become.”
In September, the City partnered with Greteman Group, a Wichita-based design firm, to bring the new logo vision to life. Greteman Group hosted community meetings and conducted a public survey that garnered nearly 500 responses. Greteman Group has operated since the 1990s and has completed projects for Hutton Construction, Spirit AeroSystems, Wichita Eisenhower Airport, and the City of Wichita.
“It was rewarding to work with the City of Andover to refresh their logo,” said Greteman Group Creative Director, Sonia Greteman. “During our discovery process, it became obvious that citizens and stakeholders shared an affinity for the existing logo – just wanting a more professional, updated look to enhance it. The simplified, upright “A,” with a modernized font and brighter color palette builds on that brand equity, elevating it and reflecting the upward trajectory of the city.”
After public survey and engagement, three concepts were presented for deliberation. The chosen logo is an evolution of the current city logo. The “A” is straightened to appear stable, strong and symmetrical. The number of rays were reduced with a brightened color palette and a bold wordmark was created t0 center the ”O” under the Kansas sun.
“The rollout of the new logo will be a phased process throughout 2025 and the years to come,” Schapaugh said. “Digital platforms and select print materials will be updated first, with additional transitions occurring in the coming years. We thank the community for their patience and enthusiasm as we introduce this refreshed identity.”
The logo will be unveiled and voted on for approval by the City Council during the City Council Meeting on Tuesday, January 14. The meeting will begin at 7pm in Andover City Hall located at 1609 East Central Avenue.
