On Wednesday afternoon, Jelinda Dawn Smith, formerly known as Jelinda Dawn Keeling, was sentenced to 36 months of probation time for her felony sex offense.
Smith was arrested by the El Dorado Police Department on March 14 for one felony charge of unlawful sexual relations with a student over the age of 16. At the time of her offense, she was employed by El Dorado Public Schools as a Math Teacher and Assistant Scholar’s Bowl Coach. She submitted her resignation to the school district on April 1. The victim, who is identified in court documents by his initials, N.A.F, was 18 years of age at the time Smith was arrested.
After her initial arrest and release, Smith was arrested again on March 18 after attempting contact with N.A.F. She was charged with one misdemeanor count of violation of a protection order.
A jury trial was initially scheduled for September 24 but was canceled after Smith struck a plea agreement with the district.
If she violates her probation she will serve 32 months of prison time with 24 months of post release supervision. Smith will also have to register as a sexual offender for 25 years.
