Wayne Edward Mathias was born February 23, 1943, in St. Louis, Missouri to parents Martha Virginia and Gordian Julius Mathias, both deceased. Wayne loved his Lord and Savior, and his family very much. Wayne was raised in Sullivan, Missouri, attended the University of Missouri and graduated from William Jewel College. He served in Vietnam in the navy as a corpsman. Upon returning from Vietnam, he married Jane Mathias (nee Price), and raised two daughters,

Wayne loved the game of golf and played it his entire life. He also developed a passion for woodworking during his retirement years and made many treasured pieces for friends and family. Wayne had a comedic personality and enjoyed making others laugh, and never missed an opportunity to make an entrance. Wayne leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Jane, of Augusta, Kansas; daughter Lori and her husband Todd Kuhlman; grandchildren, Grace Kuhlman, Raef Kuhlman, Charlie Kuhlman of Charlotte, North Carolina; grandson Jackson Mathias of Augusta, Kansas; special daughter, Miki Matsuda of Wichita, Kansas; sister, Susan Wilmont of Birmingham, Alabama. Daughter Elizabeth Mathias, deceased recently after his passing. A celebration of Wayne’s life was held on August 13, 2022, at the home of Kristey and Joe Williams.
