John Jesus Barrientos went to be with the Lord on June 11, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cirila and Daniel Barrientos, his brother Daniel Barrientos Jr, and his late wife, Sandy Barrientos. He is survived by his wife, Sue Barrientos, who he shared 18 years of marriage with. He was a loving father of sons JR (Denise) Barrientos, Mark (Dawn) Barrientos, James (Lisa) Barrientos, all of Wichita, and daughter Denise and Guy (deceased) Rivard of Canada. Step-father to Brody Schmidt of Alva, OK, Ashley (Jay) Krause of Denver, CO, and Jamie (Christopher) Cunningham of Piedmont, OK; brother Danny (Cecilia) Barrientos, Virgina Guillen, and David (Vickie) Barrientos, all of Wichita, and Mary Moreno of Fort Worth TX. John is survived by many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
John was born on January 2, 1939. He was a 2nd generation United States citizen. During his younger years he spent most of his time with his siblings. He was the brother that his siblings looked up to. He took the time to show his brother David how to ride his bike, played fast pitch softball with Danny and helped discuss any life topic with all of them.
John was a graduate of North High School in Wichita, KS. His first job was at Freeman Poultry. He later began working at Beechcraft. Those who knew him; admired his determination to work his way up during his 43 years there as the best tool inspector. His hobbies were sports. John enjoyed competitive fastpitch softball, as well as basketball and bowling, most of which were played with a sibling at one time or another.
His marriage with Jean yielded 4 children: John Ray, Mark, James and Denise. John will be remembered mostly by his love for his family. In God ‘s eyes, he was the most loving father.
At age 62, John retired. He truly enjoyed his retired life. As love found John and Sue together, they married on May 16, 2004. Together they enjoyed traveling and spending time with family.
He spent his days as a dedicated father and grandfather coaching and teaching them baseball and attending track meets and supporting them in all their various activities. There was nothing he loved to do more than play, watch or talk about any of his kids’ and grandkids’ sporting activities. He invested time and for that his family will forever hold memories dearly.
The Rosary will be held at 9:30 AM on June 18, 2022 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 2351 N Market St, Wichita, KS 67219.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on June 18, 2022 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 2351 N Market St, Wichita, KS 67219, followed immediately by a gravesite service at Ascension Cemetery 7200 E 45th St N, Bel Aire, KS 67226. Reception following at 12:30, at Evergreen Park Recreation Center, 2700 Woodland North, Wichita, KS 67204.
