Judy Kay (Sharp) Schouten, age 72, long-term resident of Leon, Kansas, passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at her new residence in Douglass, Kansas. Services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, February 11, 2022 at the Leon Christian Church. Burial will follow in Quito Cemetery, Leon.
Judy was born October 10, 1949 in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, the daughter of Louis Connard and Grace Marie (Griffith) Sharp. After Judy’s father retired from the service, her family spent a brief time in Wichita before settling in Howard, Kansas. Judy enjoyed growing up in the Howard community with her large family that included 8 siblings. Judy was involved in many school activities during her youth and liked working as a waitress at The Plaza Grill owned by Fred and Babe Rhoades.
After high school Judy worked as a telephone operator in El Dorado, Kansas. Judy married her longtime sweetheart, Kenn Robert Schouten on May 2, 1969, in Latham, Kansas. The couple had 2 daughters, Tonya Renee born January 17, 1970 and Kimberly Kay born June 23, 1971.
In 1971 Judy and Kenn moved to Leon where Kenn worked for the refinery in El Dorado and local rancher, Robert Patterson, and Judy devoted her life to raising her family, gardening and assisting her husband on the farm. Judy had many passions including caring for animals, even those she found injured in the wild, gardening, and she was an extremely talented artist. The great loves of Judy’s life were her husband and her grandchildren.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Kenn Robert Schouten, her parents Louis and Grace Sharp, half-sister Joan (Noakes) Karsting, half-brother, Richard Noakes, and sister Sharon (Sharp) Schouten.
She is survived by her daughters; Tonya Babb (Herb) of Leon, Kansas, and Kimberly McCune (Tim) of Douglass, Kansas, Siblings; Martin (Pam) Sharp of Wichita, Connie (Ronald P.) Shipman of Marion, Myrna (Tom) Leckliter of El Dorado, Linda Loebeck of Augusta, and Robert (Cindy) Sharp of Severy, Grandchildren; Jeremy (Apryl) Vancil, Justin (Miranda) Vancil, Natasha (Damon) Bing, Nikole Babb, Samuel Babb, Connor (Nellie) McCune and Molly McCune, Great Grandchildren; Payton, Emma and Levi Vancil, Lincoln and Olivia Vancil, Bentley Tong, Bryce and Waylon Bing, Hadleigh Babb, and Lucille McCune.
