Richard Allen Hogoboom

EL DORADO – Richard Allen Hogoboom, of El Dorado, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at the age of 77. Richard was born on September 27, 1944 in El Dorado, Kansas to John and Martha (Singleton) Hogoboom. Richard was well-known for his work in the oilfield as a contract pumper. He enjoyed his work so much that he would often rebuild oilfield tri-Plex pumps as a hobby. Richard had a passion for woodworking and he could build anything (wood or other materials as well). His last project was to build a woodburning stove on his own. He didn’t use any plans or blueprints, he just made it and it was absolutely perfect. He was a jack-of-all-trades, master of ALL. Richard also had a love for animals and the wild critters, and he enjoyed gardening. He was also a proud Army veteran, serving in the Army Reserves for several years, with basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Richard was a very caring son, father, grandfather, and great grandfather that will be deeply missed.

Richard is survived by his children, Dick (Melody) Hogoboom and Maggie (Lyle) Strait; siblings, Karen (Avery) Clontz and Lois Diamond; grandchildren, Megan Strait, Connor Strait, Kari Thomas, Brooke Thomas, and Clay Hogoboom; great grandchildren, Sylas Herrick and Destiny Fooshe.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, John and Martha (Singleton) Hogoboom; and siblings, Barbara Simmons and Bartley Hogoboom.

A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 2:00 PM at the American Legion Post #81. Memorial donations in Richard’s name can be directed to the Kansas Oil Museum in El Dorado and the American Legion Post #81.
