WICHITA – Mary Nadine Phelps, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2021 at the age of 91. Mary was born on December 17, 1929 in Leon, Kansas to Raymond and Emma (Daron) McClure. Mary loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed driving into the country with her children and grandchildren. Mary also loved to cook and garden and enjoyed having family gatherings. She loved being outdoors having bonfires and digging for fossils and arrowheads. In her younger years she spent a lot of time with her friends on the bowling team. She enjoyed antique shopping and board games, Wahoo was her favorite.
Mary is survived by her children, Orlin Gregory (Melissa) Phelps, Marsha Phelps, Brenda Phelps, and Shawn Phelps; grandchildren, Alex Phelps, Zachary Phelps, Tanna Phelps-Sampino, Antonette Sampino, Devin Bertsch, Lauren Ash, and Lexi Rodriguez; 7 great grandchildren; sibling, Gary (Janice) McClure; and several nieces and nephews.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Emma (Daron) McClure; siblings, Steve McClure, Lavaughn McClure, Louise McClure; Glen McClure, and Gene McClure; son-in-law, Anthony Sampino; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations in Mary’s name can be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Research Fund.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 from 5-7pm with a funeral service to follow on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at 2pm, both at Carlson Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Leon Cemetery.
