The El Dorado boys cross country team finished just two points behind regional champion Iola to earn a second-place finish at the 4A regional hosted by Ottawa High School. The Wildcats were led by seniors Ezekiel Kemboi and Christian Price, who took first and second overall.
“We sat out one of our top five runners today, because he is fighting a nagging injury,” said El Dorado head coach Dave Herrs.
“Although we would have possibly won the meet if he’d been healthy, I actually think we got better as a team today as a result. Every guy that ran for us today did what we, as a team, needed him to do. I think that is what good teams do, I am very pleased with our results from today.”
El Dorado boys top five:
Ezekiel Kemboi, 1st, 17:26; Christian Price, 2nd, 17:51; Adam Haines, 13th, 19:15; Walt Jensen, 16th, 19:44; Tyler Ashihi, 19th, 19:59.
The Wildcats will compete at the 4A state meet in Wamego on Saturday, Oct. 27.
“As always, I hope we are encouraged by our performance. I hope the excitement about qualifying for the state meet translates to a great week of practice for us,” said Herrs.
