Andover Central is headed to the 4A regional championship game after defeating the Circle Thunderbirds 1-0 in a defensive battle on Wednesday night. After two scoreless innings to start the game, Circle threatened to score in the top of the third inning. The Thunderbirds had runners on third and first with one out, but were unable to bring home a run.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Jaguars scored the first and only run of the game. Cooper Elliot singled to lead off the inning for the Jaguars. Austin Zellers reached base after being hit by a pitch in the next at-bat. After a strikeout, Trey DeGarmo hit a ground ball to the middle of the infield. The T-Bird defense fielded the ball and touched second base, before throwing to first to try to complete the double play. The throw got past the first baseman, allowing Cooper Elliot to score.

Neither team was able to score again as Central escaped with a 1-0 win.

Both pitchers had strong performances in the contest. Central’s Hunter Flanigan finished with a complete game shutout. Circle’s Easton Unruh finished with eight strikeouts in six innings.

Circle finishes the season with a record-setting 14 wins.
